The Empower Foundation is the philanthropic arm of 10Pearls, dedicated to empowering women and girls around the world. We envision a future where every woman can thrive, enjoying equal opportunities to pursue their dreams unhindered by societal and cultural barriers.
Recently, we had the privilege of volunteering with Girls on the Run (GOTR) of Northern Virginia, an organization whose mission aligns closely with our own.
Girls On the Run – Promoting Girls’ Well-Being
GOTR is a North American non-profit organization which runs programs to coach young girls in emotional and social skills, while helping them build confidence through physical activity – this mission led to the inception of the Girls on the Run 5K.
It has been shown that girls’ self-confidence begins to drop around age 9, followed by physical activity levels declining from age 10 throughout adolescence. By blending physical activity with life skills, programs like GOTR teach young girls to prioritize their physical health and emotional wellbeing – ensuring they grow up to be happy, healthy, and confident.
Encouraging Girls to Chase Their Dreams
Our team spent a heartwarming day volunteering with GOTR, helping with preparations before the race and celebrating as the girls crossed the finish line. It was inspiring to join GOTR and see the enthusiasm of all the participants as they completed the race and felt the joy of setting their mind to a goal and achieving it.
This experience served as a powerful reminder of the importance of building confidence in girls and young women from an early age. By supporting them as they learn, grow, and tackle challenges, we can help them rise above limiting gender expectations and recognize their true potential.
